The oak tree
The oak is famed for its capacity to live for many years.
The oaks along Fodsporet are approximately 30-40 years old. The bark of young oaks is smooth.
Only as the tree matures does the bark become furrowed, and acquire its characteristic wrinkled appearance.
The oak accommodates a wealth of insects, with more than 800 species particularly associated with the tree.
