The stone man of Sludstrup

Local men were employed in the building of the railway- they were known as navvies. We are not sure of their identity as there are no known texts telling their story.
But at Sludstrup Station, they have a memorial of sorts. A little way into the wood on the other side of the station is a large rock which resembles a man. It was the navvies who found it, almost certainly during the excavation work for the tracks.
We don't know whether they had a particular foreman or engineer in mind, but the stone still stands today. The station building was demolished in 1982, however.
